How to get past software and keep files?

I’m on a computer which has a wallpaper upon startup which reads: “Caution: This computer has special software installed that removes all saved files after rebooting. Please be sure to save all of your work to the (Y:) Drive only.” And it does exactly this. Unfortunately the Y: Drive only has 1 gig of space, which is pretty much filled up already. So it would be fantastic to use the computer harddrive to keep data without loosing it after every reboot.

This is a computer within a large network (school) where all the other computers in the school have the same software installed.
